Sunday, April 12th--This evening, we got a picnic together and went out to Odaiba Island so that the kids could see the view of Tokyo from this island at night. It took us a long time to get out here because there were a lot of delays with the metro. (We found out later that an electrical pole had fallen on the tracks earlier in the morning which shut down the Yamanote Line for most of the day. It had started up again around 4 p.m., which is about the time we got to the station. We were waiting at the station for a long time for a train to come.) But, we eventually made it. Here's the family with Rainbow Bridge and the mini Statue of Liberty in the background....
....and all of the kids in the same spot.
As we walked along, we could see some cherry blossoms that we still blooming. With Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower in the background, this was such a beautiful sight!!
The mini Statue of Liberty with Tokyo in the background.
More sakura, riverboats, and the simply gorgeous views of Tokyo. Seriously, can anything be much prettier than this?
We walked down to the beach and wandered around. We had planned on getting out here earlier in the evening so the kids could explore the beach a little before it got dark, but with the train delay, we didn't get out here until after the sun had set. In the dark, we could still make out some very large anchors and the kids enjoyed walking all over them.We found a good spot to sit and eat dinner while enjoying the view of Rainbow Bridge at night. Dad bought Calpis soda for the kids to drink.
This view is so gorgeous that you just can't help yourself...you take picture after picture after picture. After a while, all of your pictures are of the same thing and it seems pointless to keep taking them. But, you just keep taking them because you feel the need to capture this beauty and keep it forever.
The kids in front of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower.
More pictures trying to capture this beauty in our hearts and minds forever, since this will probably be our last time out to Odaiba Island. That thought puts a lump in our throat.
This is the Fuji TV building, with the mini Statue of Liberty. This building is so fun because it will light up in different patterns and shapes and is constantly changing. It is fun to watch.
The view of Rainbow Bridge and the island through the metro window as we said goodbye to Odaiba Island. We love Rainbow Bridge! We love all the lights and fun things to see at Odaiba Island! The view of Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Tower, and the Tokyo skyline at night is so spectacular, it's hard to leave knowing this will probably be our last night enjoying it.
